“That’s very rare around here!”

So said a resident on River View talking about the increase in anti-social behaviour during the past month which, hopefully, now seems to have subsided.

He was most concerned about the damage done to the 183 year old, historically Grade 2 listed Jephcott bridge. The damage was done late one evening when some, possibly drunk, people presumably held the top rail while jumping  on and damaging the lower rails.

GRH reported it to both the Enfield Heritage Team and Town Councillor Michael Rye and it was repaired a week later.

The damage was done on the same Tuesday evening that waste bags waiting for Wednesday council collection were thrown into the river along with the notice-board of the Crown & Horses pub.

SO WHAT ELSE HAS HAPPENED ?

On a variety of different evenings damage was done to  the windows of three separate buildings:

  • A house on River View had a garden rock thrown through their front window that reached the other end of the seventeen foot long living room.

  • The house at the end of  the rather shady part of Gentleman’s Row next to the bridge had someone’s fist put through their kerbside window and then again two weeks later.

  • Clarendon Cottage had a small doorside window broken on the same evening.

The River View family reported it to the police and had a visit from three female constables from the Safer Neighbourhood Team ten days later whilst the Gentleman’s Row house also had a police visit some days later.

Graffiti also recently appeared on the Grade 2 listed wall next to Little Park and on the wooden dividing fence next to Barney's Bridge.

Whilst the graffiti by Barney's Bridge was quickly painted over by one of the neighbours, the Grade 2 listed wall proved to be more challenging due to it's location. However, the council were contacted and after a couple of visits they have managed to erase most of the graffiti.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING TO DO ?

Anti-Social behavior  and vandalism is regarded as a ‘Non Emergency Crime’ The police, however, do want it reported so they know if a certain pattern is developing.

Advice given is to contact our local SAFE NEIGHBOURHOOD TEAM via email at: enfieldtown.snt@met.police.uk

Our local team has an acting Sergeant, two police constables and two Police Community Support Officers.

ALSO please report anything to GRH Residents Association by emailing: grhresidents@live.com
